DK Expressions® has been selected to Create With Canon.

They have given us the pocket-friendly Canon PowerShot SX600 HS to use over the next 3 months; snapping image galleries to give you a look into the things we do, the things we see, and the things we create.

In today’s post we take a look at Project Maboneng‘s event which took place last weekend and featured the International Rapper AceHood. The event was part of an initiative that promoted the new district of the Maboneng Precinct.

The event was supposed to be a street party with various stalls and activation’s. The one activation that stood out for us was the Bello Bench. Now you probably wondering what is Bello Bench let me tell you. It’s a free wifi activation that is looking to be implemented into the Maboneng Precinct to allow the residents and visitors to the area the opportunity to log onto the internet for free.

The event Organizers anticipated a crowd of 5000 people but that surely was not the case as I think only 1000 – 2500 max the whole day and I’m not sure if it was due to lack of Advertising and Marketing, no mention that the main dance floor was under covers as the weather looked like it was going to rain and that would have enticed people to come, or the cost of the tickets being R395. To make matters worse it was on the same day as a Huge bash in Soweto that was Free and if you had children you’d probably have taken them to One Direction.

In overall the Sound and Lighting was top class, the Local and International performances were excellent and for the people that Turned Up we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think for their next event they need to allow more time to advertise, maybe include one or two extra activation’s but on a serious note they must keep the venue layout, sound, lighting and stage unchanged.

All photos taken by #DKEXP #TimeTraveller Andrew Yapanis with the incredible pocket sized Canon PowershotSX600 HS that has 18x optical zoom, easy to use functionality and is WiFi enabled, has the capability of taking one shot multiple times and editing them automatically to give you a really funky gallery. We can honestly suggest this little piece of technology excellence for anyone that cannot afford the more expensive DSLR camera and is interested in doing photography on a permanent basis.
