LET’S GET PERSONAL WITH THE SWEET RESISTANCE
About 3 weeks ago I received an email from a publicist named Jeni Fletcher asking if I would like to interview all the SA Support Acts who will be performing at ROCK ON THE LAWNS featuring the PIXIES this March.
I did not hesitate for more than two seconds and immediately replied yes, please.
So I thought that instead of asking each support act different questions that I would simply ask each act the same questions.
So without wasting any more time
HERE IS WHAT THE SIXTH SA SUPPORT ACT HAD TO SAY AHEAD OF THEIR PERFORMANCE AT ROCK ON THE LAWNS featuring the PIXIES
LET’S GET PERSONAL WITH Mike Vaughan of The Sweet Resistance
What are your thoughts about being selected as one of the support acts to open for The Pixies at ROCK ON THE LAWNS this March?
TSR count it as a massive privilege.
We have worked hard, putting together a great album and live show over the last year, so to be granted an opportunity like this really feels like a validation of that effort and that we are on the right path with our music.
- What has been your best moment or moments on stage?
I think it happened during one of the first shows. There were a lot of nerves as we launched TSR, but there was this moment where Tash took a guitar solo and the crowd went nuts – then she just jumped up onto the bass bin in front of the stage and carried on rocking out while the room erupted. She is a proper rock starJ. That was a fun night!

Another favorite moment is when you look out and see people singing along to your songs. The first time that happened was at the Get Lucky Summer show we did with

Complete strangers, singing TSR songs, how about that?
- What has been your worst moment or moments on stage?
Ahh, when something technical goes wrong, a guitar suddenly stops working or something just doesn’t sound right.
In those moments you have to keep your cool, play through it and recover.
There was one show where the power cut and all we had going was Nick on the drums.
I think people understand that sometimes stuff goes wrong and if you handle it well they will carry you through it.
- Do you have any kind of lucky charm that you take with you on tour?
We are not big “lucky charm” people but we are complete gear heads, we own some pretty sick guitars and those are always on tour with us.
- Do you perform any special ritual before going on stage?
We still perform the proverbial band huddle and get into what we want the show to be even before it starts.
- Which superhero would you be and why?
Because he has a cool suit and he can fly and can blow sh1t up
- Name any 3 people that you’d Marry, Shag and throw off a cliff
Gray: Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman & Gareth Cliff…
Nick: Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson & JZ, as in Zuma, not the rapper!
Tash: Ryan Reynolds, Jared Leto & Donald Trump…
Mike: Sarah Vaughan, Sarah Vaughan & Mugabe…
- What inspires your music?
As a band, we create music because of the way it makes us feel.
It’s a real stoke when we get together and pool our thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.
We all experience life in different ways have our message and purpose, the stuff that makes us come alive.
When we throw all that stuff into the mixing bowl, we create something greater than the sum of its parts.
- Imagine if you had just won 100 Million Rand, bought 6 cars, 1 jet plane, 4 houses across the world. What would you have for breakfast?
Tash – fruit salad, with pure gold sprinkles, cos she can & she’s full vegan!
Mike – eggs benedict prepared for me and a table of 25 hungry street kids
Nick – bacon & eggs, with a side portion of bacon and eggs
Gray – tall Seattle latte…that’s all.
- What can fans look forward to in 2017?
PIXIES right now is obviously the big one that we are all looking forward to.
TSR has also been performing a string of acoustic shows this year, these have been great – more intimate and stripped down versions of the album songs, with a bunch of covers thrown in.
We have the follow-up single to “Feel” that have been play- listed on 5FM – it’s called “Captivated”.
Music videos and new music are all in the works as we speak.
We will also be touring with some of SA’s finest this year, along with appearing at a host of festivals.
As Tash would say, “See you there y’all”
