LET’S GET PERSONAL WITH CRASH CAR BURN
About 2 weeks ago I received an email from a publicist named Jeni Fletcher asking if I would like to interview all the SA Support Acts who will be performing at ROCK ON THE LAWNS featuring the PIXIES this March.
I did not hesitate for more than two seconds and immediately replied yes, please.
So I thought that instead of asking each support act different questions that I would simply ask each act the same questions.
So without wasting any more time
HERE IS WHAT THE FOURTH SA SUPPORT ACT HAD TO SAY AHEAD OF THEIR PERFORMANCE AT ROCK ON THE LAWNS featuring the PIXIES
LET’S GET PERSONAL WITH GARTH OF CRASH CAR BURN
- What are your thoughts about being selected as one of the support acts to open for The Pixies at ROCK ON THE LAWNS this March?
We’re are super excited!
I mean these guys wrote the soundtrack to my teens.
I grew up with Pixies playing in the background so to have the opportunity to share the stage with them is just such an unbelievable privilege.
- What has been your best moment or moments on stage?
Wow, we’ve been doing this for a very long time so there are a few moments which come to mind…
Touring America with Katy Perry and The Gym Class Heroes on Vans warped tour,
Sharing the stage with Korn and 30 Seconds to Mars in 2008,
being nominated at the SAMAS…
but if I had to pick one, it would probably be Symphonic Rocks where we got to play our songs with a 30 piece orchestra.
That was such an unreal feeling and such a unique opportunity.
- What has been your worst moment or moments on stage?
Sho, it’s very seldom that we don’t enjoy being on stage.
But I guess there was the time when our bass player got a little carried away and broke right through the stage.
He had to play the rest of the gig squashed in a tiny corner where the stage was still usable.
- Do you have any kind of lucky charm that you take with you on tour?
Nope, we’re not superstitious.
- Do you perform any special ritual before going on stage?
Nothing exciting here aside from the mandatory high 5 and ‘Enjoy boys’ as we take the stage…
Not sure that counts?
- Which superhero would you be and why?
Superman of course!
He’s the top of the pile!
I don’t necessarily need the superhuman strength (though that would be fun)…for me, it’s all about the flying!
I would LOVE to be able to fly!
- Name any 3 people that you’d Marry, Shag and throw off a cliff
Marry: Margot Robbie.
Shag: Britney Spears
Throw off a cliff: Jacob Zuma
- What inspires your music?
I don’t think that’s something you can pinpoint hey.
Inspiration is an extremely erratic beast.
You can go months without feeling a thing and then BOOM 5 songs in a week.
It’s also not something you can force.
You just have to be patient and wait for it to strike…but you also better be sure to have a voice recorder handy when it does!
I have woken up in the middle of the night wild with excitement for a song idea that’s come to me,
‘Ag you’ll remember it in the morning’ I tell myself.
When I wake up: Gone!
- Imagine if you had just won 100 Million Rand, bought 6 cars, 1 jet plane, 4 houses across the world. What would you have for breakfast?
Crispy Bacon on a toasted croissant.
I am easy to please
- What can fans look forward to in 2017?
Well, we’ve recently decided it’s time to release a new album!
IT’s our ten year birthday this year so we want to do something to mark the occasion.
Expect to hear something around October.
