Local musicians now have the opportunity to perform on the “global stage” as the newly launched Hard Rock Café Johannesburg in Mandela Square Sandton announces its call for all local unsigned bands to take part in ‘Hard Rock Rising’, the world’s largest and most far-reaching ‘battle of the bands’ competition.

Brought to you by iconic global brand, Hard Rock, in partnership with leading online music-marketing platform, ReverbNation, this competition promises to be one of the most electrifying of the year. The combination of Hard Rock’s formidable brand presence and ReverbNation’s extensive network of more than 3.3 million artists in 250 countries worldwide, will once again provide undiscovered bands with an international stage to jumpstart their careers.

John Galloway, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Hard Rock International says, “Over the past two years, more than 24,000 artists entered to compete in Hard Rock Rising, where more than one million songs from these up and coming artists were downloaded by fans – we’re honoured to welcome these artists to Hard Rock’s global stage and look forward to discovering more talent in 2014.”

Emerge victorious from ‘Hard Rock Rising 2014’, a global search for tomorrow’s ultimate rising rock stars, and you and your band will experience the thrill of performing live at the first-ever ‘Hard Rock Live’ music festival in July 2014 in the heart of Rome, a mere stone’s throw from The Spanish Steps and the Roman Colosseum.

To register, hopeful bands around the world can visit one of 81 participating Hard Rock Cafe Facebook pages.

Following open registration, fans decide who moves on to the live performance phase of the program by voting on the Hard Rock city-specific Facebook page and downloading free tracks from bands of their choice.

After fan favourites are chosen, participating Hard Rock Cafe locations around the world will then host a series of live competitions featuring the local bands.

One winner will be selected from each location by a panel of local industry judges. Selected local winners will be narrowed down to the top twenty-five bands worldwide following a second round of fan voting on participating Hard Rock Facebook pages.

Bands can only register to participate in one market and must originate from within a 160km radius in order to compete in a participating city.

 Bands not within the approved radius can enter via the ‘virtual’ opportunity but will not compete live at ‘Battle’ events.  Instead, their social content will be reviewed by a panel to determine the Top 5 who move into the next round to compete against winners from participating cafes.


All band members must be 18 years of age or older and listed band member in the Entry Form at the time of entering the contest.
