Thousands of cyclists to descend on the East Rand for the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle race
On Sunday, 21 February 2016 thousands of cycling enthusiasts will descend on the East Rand for the 32nd edition of the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race. The race starts at Carnival City passing the outskirts of Boksburg, Germiston, the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, Heidelberg and Nigel before finishing at Carnival City.
With road safety in mind, certain sections of the race route, particularly near Carnival City, will be closed or partly closed to normal traffic. The public is urged to look-out for information signs which will be erected along the route to minimise inconvenience. In addition a rolling road closure will take place for certain licensed categories from 06:00 on the day of the event.
“We are excited to once again support and play host to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race. We urge the community to look out for signs indicating road closures or traffic restrictions, and exercise tolerance,” says Carnival City’s Marketing Manager, Michelle Smith.
The Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race is organised annually by the Rotary Club of Germiston and Germiston Wheelers Cycle Club. Proceeds raised from the race are ploughed into Rotary Community Projects in needy communities, The Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects, and the development of amateur cycling.
